The HOPE of DELIVERANCE! When I was a kid in the 1950's, a neighbor built a bomb shelter in his back yard .. in those days people were pretty spooked about the possibilities of a nuclear war with Russia. Such fears have pretty much disappeared since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. However, the media and even our government officials are once again talking about the prospect of "the unthinkable war" since Russia has come out of hibernation and is once again becoming aggressive and waging war in Ukraine. The surprising resistance of the Ukrainians has even raised the possibility that Russia may resort to weapons of mass destruction. SUCH MADNESS! In our series of articles about Russia and the Bible prophecies of end-time war and bloodshed, we have presented a pretty grim picture about the future of the world. Hopefully, our assessment has been accurate and Biblical. Our purpose is not to alarm ... but to warn, and there is a big difference. We all need hope in times of despair ... and we want you to know the real Source of Hope! FLEE? In reality, if there were ever a full-scale nuclear exchange, there would be no place to hide ... and if you did somehow survive you would become a victim of radiation and nuclear winter. So, where could you flee? I would encourage you to flee to the Author of Life, the Creator Himself Who claimed that He was the Resurrection and the Life. Jesus promised "He that believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." (John 11:25) Jesus' promise of eternal life dispels all fear about the unknown future for those who have trusted Him as Savior and Lord - "We are confident, I say, and willing to be absent from the body and present with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8) As Jesus was dying on the cross in payment for all our sins, He told a repentant thief on another cross - "... today you will be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43) The dying thief who called on Jesus KNEW where he was going after he died, and you can have that same assurance by calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ to save you "For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13) RESCUED! Christians also live with the hope of Jesus' return to rescue them from this earth. This event is often referred to as the "rapture" and it is based upon Jesus' promise - "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself, that where I am, there you may be also." (John 14:1-3) One of the disciples asked Jesus where He was going, and Jesus responded - "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6) Call on Him by faith today, and receive eternal life! Chuck Anderson, Pastor, Neighborhood Bible Fellowship (Meeting weekly at 10 A.M.
