What Day Did Jesus Die? Tradition tells us that Jesus was crucified on Friday, the day before the Jewish Sabbath. PROBLEM: The Bible says that Jesus was buried "three days and three nights." You cannot put "three days and three nights" between sundown Friday (Jewish beginning of the Sabbath) and sundown Saturday (beginning of the first day of the week). Let's take the Bible word for word and believe it! The Bible declares that Jesus died the day before the Passover Sabbath which was a "high day." (John 19:31) The Passover Sabbath is followed by another sabbath called the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
